Description
Little Trethinna is a house dating to the late 16th or early 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with a slate roof and gable ends. A stone rubble end stack is located on the left-hand side, while the right-hand side has a brick shaft for its end stack. The house is built on a sloping site, with the ground rising to the left. The original plan is uncertain, and the interior was not accessible for inspection in 1987. The house appears to be divided into two sections; the left-hand side has an entrance on the right and a room to the left heated by an end stack, while the right-hand side has an entrance to the left and the adjacent room is heated by another end stack. A small room lies between the two entrances, and it is unclear which was the original entrance. Attached to the lower right-hand end is a further range, a one-room plan with an entrance, likely a later 19th-century addition. The front facade is asymmetrical, a four-window arrangement with entrances positioned to the left and right of centre, featuring plank doors and dressed stone arches. A small one-light casement window is also present. To the left is a two-light casement, and to the right a 19th-century two-light casement within an opening originally holding a granite two-light mullion window; the surround of the mullioned window remains. Above the window lintel is inscribed "RICHARD HAVCRE." Four two-light casement windows are on the first floor. The interior remains inaccessible but is likely to contain several interesting features.
