Description

Mill House consists of two adjoining houses, likely dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is made of colourwashed stone, featuring a wheat straw thatched roof at the right end and a lower slate roof at the left end. There are brick chimneys at the left gable end and on a stone stack at the right gable end, along with a large projecting lateral stone stack at the rear topped with a brick shaft.

The accommodation in No. 1 includes areas under both the slate and thatched roofs. Only two rooms from the original house remain, suggesting an initial layout that may have had a baffle entry at the right or through the center into a hall on the left, with a rear lateral stack. The right-hand room, along with a lean-to and rear outshut, is now part of No. 2. No. 1 has been modified to be two rooms wide with an entrance leading into a stair hall, while No. 2 is now in an L shape.

The building is two storeys high with a one plus two window range. No. 1 features a central 20th-century front door, two ground floor 20th-century two-light casements with six panes per light, and two similar first floor windows under brick heads. No. 2 has a 20th-century front door on the right side, with a similar window on the ground floor and one on the first floor under in-situ concrete lintels. There is also a 20th-century two-light casement with three panes per light in the lean-to.

Inside No. 1, there is a massive fireplace on the ground floor right with a roughly-chamfered fireplace beam and a slate floor. The interior of No. 2 has not been inspected. The property was repaired for the Landmark Trust by P Pearn of Plymouth around 1975.
