Description

The building is a former warehouse and net loft, likely originally stables for a public house, dating from the early 19th century, as shown on the 1843 tithe map. It is constructed of killas and granite rubble with granite dressings and features a dry Delabole slate roof that is hipped at the front, stepping down to a narrower building behind the front range and returning at the rear left to a gable end. The structure has a deep L-shaped plan and is built into a slope at the rear.

The exterior consists of two storeys with a two-window front range. There is a central first-floor loading doorway with a loft doorway above, flanked by segmental brick arches over horned late 19th-century 6/6-pane sash windows. The ground floor features a wide central doorway with sliding boarded doors. The side elevations have regularly spaced window and door openings, which are spanned by timber lintels and segmental brick arches. There are two first-floor loading doorways, and most windows are late 19th-century 12-pane horned sashes, while the doorways have planked doors.

The interior has not been inspected in detail, but it is noted that the heavy cross beams of the original floor structure have been removed, although the roof structure is likely to be original. This building is part of an important and little altered group in this former fishing and china clay port.
