Description
Wick House is a house that has been converted into a nursing home, built around 1790. It features a stucco exterior, lateral stacks, and a slate double-pile hipped roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the late Georgian Picturesque style. It stands two storeys tall and has a range of 13 windows. The design is symmetrical, with flanking wings leading to two canted bays on either side of a single first-floor Venetian window. The window arrangement is 3:3:1:3:3, with some surviving 6/6-pane sashes, although the front has been much altered. The windows have keyed segmental heads beneath a first-floor plat band, and the outer wings feature smaller windows. There is a cornice and a balustrade in the middle, with crenellations on the bays and slightly lower wings. The sides and rear have 20th-century extensions, which include plainer flat- and segmental-headed openings. The central blocks have four chimneys at the gable ends, and the valley roof has hips that project above the bays. The interior has been altered. Originally, the house was surrounded by pleasure gardens covering approximately 60 acres. Former stables, which have been converted into houses, still exist at the rear.
