Description
7 and 9 Whiteladies Road is a pair of attached houses, now used as offices, built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a party wall, lateral stacks, and a slate hipped roof. The buildings have a double-depth plan and are designed in the Italianate style. Each house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a symmetrical front that includes outer attic towers with overhanging eaves, connected by a parapeted two-storey center that has entrances on the sides.
The ground floor is banded and decorated with raised circles linked by leaf motifs, while a narrow band on the second floor features small circles and brackets at the eaves. The windows are semicircular-arched, with two lights and archivolts, and central slim column mullions. The tripartite windows in the outer bays have panelled aprons, blocked colonnettes with foliate capitals, and a missing balustrade. Above, paired windows feature shouldered architraves, segmental pediments, console cornices, and fluted columns, with twisted columns and recessed spandrels in the attic. The interior has been largely remodeled in the late 20th century.
