Description
Number 2 and attached gates is an office building constructed in 1907 by Henry Williams, designed in the Edwardian Baroque style. It is built from limestone ashlar and has a single-depth plan, rising three storeys with a two-window range. The building features a tall plinth supporting paired attached Tuscan columns, with keyed semicircular arches between them leading to a modillion cornice that projects over the columns. There is a first-floor pedestal band supporting attached Ionic columns, topped with a dentil cornice and a balustrade between dies.
On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century shop set within the right-hand arch, while the left arch remains open. The second-floor windows are adorned with attached blind balustrades; the left window is a tripartite design with mullions and crocket capitals, topped with a central segmental pediment, while the right window features an architrave and a dentil pediment.
Inside, the building has a three-bay lobby with aedicules on either side, set on a raised plinth and featuring fluted keys. The property also includes wrought-iron gates with a grille above. This building forms an extension to Number 47 Corn Street and provides access to the Bristol Commercial Rooms.
