Description
Pillar box located outside Walkford Sub Post Office, manufactured around 1936 by Carron Co Ltd. It is made of cast iron, painted red with a black base. The cylindrical box features a base with the Edward VIII cipher and crown, collection-time panels both below and above the horizontal letter slit, a cornice, and a shallow-domed dentilled cap with a crescent supporting plate indicating the direction of the Post Office. A stamp dispensing machine is fixed to the side. This pillar box is one of fewer than 100 Edward VIII boxes still remaining in the country and is a well-preserved example.
