Description
The former Sunday School to the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel, now an art gallery, was built in 1842 by George P Manners. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a slate roof with a moulded stack on the left party wall. The building has two storeys and a four-window front. It is topped with a coped parapet and a cornice that continues from the rear wing connected to the chapel. The first floor has stone mullioned and transomed three-light casement windows with label moulds above. The ground floor has three similar windows beneath a moulded first-floor string course, flanked by vertical panelled doors set under Tudor arches with sunk spandrels. The left door features a stone scroll banner carved with the word "SCHOOLS." To the left, there is a school house that completes the southern side of the courtyard. The interior has not been inspected and the building was formerly home to the British Folk Art Collection.
