Description

No. 5 is a house dating to circa 1770, with 20th-century alterations. It was developed by Thomas Omer and stands on land formerly owned by the Hayne family from 1638. By 1765, Charles Hayne sold the site to Thomas Omer for building, following a period when the land had been used as a vineyard until circa 1730.

The front of the house is limestone ashlar, painted to the ground floor, with a rubble rear and a double-pile parapeted roof covered in Welsh slate to the front. A coped party wall is present on the left-hand side, along with two ashlar stacks. The three-storey and basement house has a two-window front. The first floor has a tripartite window, formerly arched in the centre like a Venetian window, now altered to three two-over-two sash windows, with bordered glazing in splayed reveals and a continuous lowered stone sill. The centre window's round head has been blocked and a new lintel inserted. The second floor features two plate glass sashes in plain reveals with stone sills. The ground floor has a sash window with bordered glazing in a splayed reveal, and a stone sill, to the left, and a six-panel door with a flush, fielded panel, and one glazed panel, set within a stone doorcase with a cyma moulded architrave, frieze, and pediment, leading to a Pennant paved crossover. A basement has two six/six sashes in plain reveals, and a 20th-century door has been inserted underneath the crossover. A band course runs above the ground floor, connecting with No. 6 Vineyards. A moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet continue the line of Nos 1-4 and 6 Vineyards. A lead hopperhead and downpipe are attached to the right and are shared with No. 6 Vineyards. The rear elevation is not visible. The interior of the property has not been inspected.

Attached to the front are wrought iron railings with shaped heads on limestone bases.
