Description
24 Vineyards is an end-of-row shop with living accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century and featuring 19th-century alterations. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar and has a Welsh slate roof. It has a part single depth and part double depth plan due to its wedge-shaped site.
The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with three windows facing Vineyards and one on the narrow end elevation. The ground floor features a six-panel door with flush panels at the bottom and glazed panels at the top. To the right is a late 19th-century shopfront with a three-light window that has slim timber mullions and a door, all made of timber except for the ashlar stallriser. There is a similar smaller shop window on the end elevation. A platband is partly destroyed by shop fascia boards, and there is a sill band at the first floor. The first floor has two six-over-six sash windows, a blind window to the right, and another six-over-six sash on the narrow end. The second floor mirrors the first, except the center window is also blind. The building features a cornice, parapet, and a mansard roof with a paired flat-topped dormer containing two two-over-two sashes. A large ashlar stack is located on the canted back wall.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the building first appeared on Harcourt Masters's map of 1793 and likely retains the original appearance of Nos 21-23 before their remodelling.
