Description
Beechwood is a detached house dating from the early 19th century, with additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed of painted limestone ashlar, with some exposed stonework and a slate roof. The house has a compact, double-depth plan with hipped roofs and a central valley, although the rear half has been altered, incorporating a high mansard roof. A shallow, full-height porch is located at the rear, facing the south side, and a conservatory covers the lower level of the front, which faces the garden.
The main front of the house has three twelve-pane sashes with louvred shutters, a blind light between bays two and three, and a cavetto cornice with a blocking course and parapet, returned to the road front. The road front has two twelve-pane sashes with shutters above the returned conservatory, which covers two plain sashes. A 19th-century chimney stack is situated on the right. A four-panel door, dating to the 19th century, leads to the porch, which has a white marble panel with carved figures or suppliants at an altar or table. The return face of the porch features a small two-light window, and the main return wall, set back, has a twelve-pane sash on each level. Three dormer windows are set into the mansard slope, coped behind the original hipped end. The outer end, which is unpainted, has a cantilevered 20th-century projection. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
