Description
Horsted Keynes Signal Box is a signal box built around 1882 for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, likely designed by T W Myres. The building features a ground floor made of red brick and a first floor with painted weatherboarding, topped with a hipped slate roof and a red brick chimneystack. On the north side, there is a four-panelled door accessed by a wooden staircase, along with two sliding casements and a quatrefoil design above. The south side has three sliding casements, while the west side has five. Inside, the signal box retains original fittings, including a fireplace, locker, desk, and equipment such as a Sykes "lock and block" structure and a lever frame with 40 levers. This signal box is the only remaining Type 1 signal box on the LBSC line and is now part of the Bluebell Railway.
