Description
The former threshing barn at Crookhorn Farm dates from around the mid-17th century to early 18th century. It is a timber-framed structure with weatherboarding and a hipped roof covered in corrugated metal.
The barn has a rectangular footprint aligned north to south. On the east and west sides, there are large double-door openings at the center, along with additional entrance doors and hatches around the building.
Inside, the barn features five bays defined by pairs of posts with jowled and flush profiles at the top. Braces extend from the posts to support tie beams, and above these are raked queen-post struts that hold a pair of clasped purlins. Some rafters have been replaced in recent years, and the roof has been reinforced with later passing braces and additional purlins. The wall-frame still contains studs, wall plates, and mid rails. Some of the pegged timbers have been strengthened with iron brackets, and there are indications that some timbers have been replaced, as well as evidence of reused timbers.
