Description
Fishbourne Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, built in the mid-18th century. The front range dates from this period, while the eastern part of the rear range may be from the early 18th century, and the western part possibly dates to the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tiled roof with end brick chimneystacks.
The front range has two storeys and attics, with five windows. There is a band between the floors and a deep plinth. A central gabled 19th-century dormer is present, along with five 12-pane sash windows that have rendered architraves and wooden internal shutters. The entrance features a central pedimented doorcase with a five fielded panelled door. To the right of the doorcase, there is a blocked window opening. The gable ends have kneelers, with the western gable displaying two mid-19th-century sashes that have vertical glazing bars and horns. The eastern gable includes black brick headers, a blocked attic opening, a later 19th-century casement without glazing bars on the ground floor, and otherwise 20th-century casements.
The eastern part of the rear range has a half-hipped roof with a 20th-century hipped dormer, a 19th-century casement in an original cambered headed surround, and a 20th-century door in a cambered headed surround.
The interior has not been inspected, but external features indicate the presence of internal wooden shutters, original fireplaces, and a Victorian staircase. Fishbourne Farmhouse is a substantially intact mid-18th-century brick farmhouse.
