Description

Fox Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, substantially refaced in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is timber-framed, with the frame exposed on the front first floor, featuring plastered infill and 18th-century brickwork to the ground floor. The right-hand elevation combines brick on the ground floor with bands of plain and curved tiles on the first floor. The left side is weatherboarded, while the rear elevation is constructed of stone rubble with brick dressings. The tiled roof has a gable to the left, a gablet to the right, a catslide to the rear, and a central 16th-century ribbed brick chimney stack. The house has two storeys and three casement windows. A bay on the south end is separately framed from the two northern bays. There are three curved tension braces. The central doorcase features a wooden architrave and a plank door. The rear elevation includes two dormers, one being hipped. Inside, the cottage contains an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer, exposed floorjoists, and a stop-chamfered spine beam with run-out stops.
