Description
The Parish Church of St John the Baptist is a large church featuring a chancel, nave with aisles, a north porch, and a west tower topped with a shingled spire. It is constructed of flint with Harwich Formation Siltstone dressings and has a tiled roof. The church dates mostly from the late 14th century, with the tower added in the early 16th century and open to the nave on three sides. The building underwent restoration in 1865, designed by the Reverend J H Sperling. It is a fine example of a medieval church on a large scale, although it has been significantly restored. Notable features include a piscina from around 1400 and two wall tablets created by the sculptor Nollekens.
