Description
The Manor House is a house, likely dating from the 17th century, but significantly refronted in the early 20th century and altered in the 20th century. It is built of stone rubble with galletting, set on a brick and stone plinth, and has a tiled roof with red chimney stacks. The building is arranged over two storeys and consists of two parallel ranges forming an L-shape.
The front elevation features a brick cornice with modillions, and pilasters flanking the windows. It has three sash windows (two double) to the main part of the house, and one double sash window to the set-back wing on the right-hand side. The ground floor windows have cambered arches. A central doorcase has an open pediment, pilasters, Gothic glazing to a semicircular fanlight, panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door.
The rear elevation is similar to the front, but includes three modern triple dormers to the roof, and five sash windows with cambered brick arches to the ground floor.
The staircase has been replaced in the 20th century, but remnants of an earlier staircase potentially survive in the form of a repositioned early 19th-century newel post and two circular rails relating to a subsidiary staircase. A ground floor room on the right-hand side contains a fireplace with a beam bearing three graffiti depictions of sailing ships. There is also a massive spine beam with lambs tongue stops and oak panelling, likely dating to the 20th century.
