Description
Oakwood Preparatory School is a large house built around 1811 for William Dearling, likely designed by architect James Elmes. The main facade, facing west, features two storeys and seven windows. The building is stuccoed, with a rusticated ground floor and a string course above. It has an eaves cornice and a slate roof, with intact glazing bars. The central part of the facade has a slightly curved bay with an iron balcony on the first floor. In the late 19th century, a pavilion was added to the north end, connected to the house by a corridor that features a colonnade of four Doric columns. The entrance front has two storeys and an attic, with four windows, three dormers, and a wide portico supported by twin columns. To the north-west, there is a one-storey wing that includes an Italianate loggia.
