Description

The Old Thatch is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed, with painted brick elevations on the south and west sides, exposed framing with painted brick infilling on the north side, and a brick catslide outshut on the east side. The thatched roof is hipped, with a brick stack positioned off-centre to the left, and three eyebrow dormers. The cottage has three framed bays and a baffle-entry plan, with a third unheated room on the right (east) side. It is one and a half storeys high. The front of the cottage has an irregular arrangement of three windows, featuring casements from the 18th and 19th centuries, with smaller casements placed above the ground floor windows. A small 20th-century outshut with a pentice roof is located to the right of the front. The entrance is through a boarded door within a later 20th-century gabled porch, set to the left of the centre. The interior retains significant timber framing, and includes a large fireplace in the baffle-entry position.
