Description
The Homestead is a house with attached outbuildings, dated 1734, though it may have an earlier core and was extended in the 19th century. The structure is made of brick and covered in roughcast, topped with a tiled roof featuring end brick chimneystacks. It has two storeys and two windows, with 19th-century casements, a canted bay window on the ground floor, and a central doorcase with a mid-19th century door. The rear and left wing have a catslide roof and casement windows.
Inside, there is an open brick fireplace, the lower part of an 18th-century winder staircase, original floorboards, an 18th-century roof with staggered purlins, three plank doors, and an 18th-century wooden fireplace, although the fireplace and one door were not in their original positions during the inspection.
The attached outbuildings likely include a small barn and stable with a hayloft above. The barn is constructed of cobbles, partly rendered, with a thatched roof and a 20th-century shopfront. The probable stable building is also made of cobbles, featuring brick lacing courses, a slate roof, and a brick external chimney. It has a cambered entrance on the ground floor and a cambered loft door at the rear. This area was formerly a butcher's shop.
