Description
The grotto, located approximately 4 metres west of The Cold Bath, was built around 1738-40 by William Kent. It is constructed from squared and coursed limestone and features a semi-circular archway with rusticated stonework beneath the imposts. Inside, there are niches and a quadripartite vault. This grotto is adjacent to a pool known as The Cold Bath and is part of the landscape gardens designed by William Kent between 1733 and 1740. Rousham Park, where the grotto is situated, is listed in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I.
