Description
This building, known as Walkers Zene Walker, is a house with shops located on Burford and Upton High Street. It features an 18th-century front that is attached to a medieval house. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with a ground floor made of ashlar stone and rough-cast upper floors, which are believed to be timber-framed. The front of the building, which likely had a gabled design originally, now has a parapet between the ridges of the roof.
The windows include glazing-bar sashes, with two in the attic and three on the first floor, the outer ones being tripartite. The ground floor has a central doorway that is topped with a stone open-pedimented hood supported by brackets. To the left is a late 19th-century shop front, while to the right is a 20th-century shop window. There is also an additional attic window in an extension adjacent to the Bull Hotel.
At the rear, there are two-storey extensions, and the elevation facing Witney Street is constructed of rubble, showing some evidence of earlier timber framing and a small blocked window on the ground floor. The building has a cellar below and is said to have been refronted in the early 18th century, around the same time as the Bull Hotel. The interior previously featured a medieval archway, which has since been removed.
