Description

Old Broomhill Farmhouse is an abandoned farmhouse, likely built in the early 19th century. It features sandstone rubble footings with a chamfered plinth, and above this, there is red brick in Flemish bond, which includes some burnt headers and a brick dentil frieze at the first floor level. The first floor has exposed timber-framing that is relatively closely studded with wavy braces, and part of the west end is hung with peg-tiles. The roof is covered with peg-tiles, and there are brick stacks and chimney shafts.

The farmhouse has a basic two-room plan with a central entrance and staircase. The parlour is located to the right and has a rear lateral stack, while the left end, probably the kitchen, features a large projecting gable-end stack. The building is two storeys high.

The exterior has an irregular two-window front with timber-mullioned windows that do not have glazing bars. The right end window returns around the corner. The first floor windows are large hip-roofed dormers. The front doorway is slightly left of centre and contains a 19th-century six-panel door behind a gabled porch supported by plain posts with plain braces, creating an outer arch. The gable has plain bargeboards and an apex finial. The main roof is gable-ended and steps down from the main part to a slightly lower roof over the kitchen. The interior has not been inspected.
