Description

A house, probably dating from the early 19th century, originally built as three cottages and renovated and altered in the late 20th century. The ground floor is plastered, the first floor is tile-hung, and the roof is slate-covered, with brick stacks. The south-facing range is slightly set back from the road. The original layout comprised three two-cell cottages of similar plan, with the outer cottages each having a larger outer room, heated by an end stack, and a service room to the rear. Entry was into an unheated room, with the staircase rising in front of the front door. The central cottage's main room was heated by an axial stack – the shaft of which has been removed. The internal layout has been extensively altered during restoration and conversion. A brick and tile-hung outshut was added to the rear right side around 1950, with roof wells providing access to the original rear windows. The exterior has an asymmetrical six-window front. The plank and cover strip front doors to the two left-hand cottages are likely 20th century, but set within original openings. The right-hand door has been converted into a window, creating seven ground-floor windows in total. There are irregularly spaced, early 19th-century, two-light casement windows with small panes. The original staircase survives in the left-hand (west) cottage. Internal partitions have been altered. The roof was not inspected.
