Description
Riverhead House is a large, early 18th-century house of two storeys and an attic, originally with nine windows. A two-storey, four-bay addition was built in 1765, as indicated by the rainwater head. The original part of the house has a high-pitched hipped tiled roof, altered by the addition of modern dormers. The facade is of red brick with a decorative pattern of blue headers, and a first-floor band. It features sash windows with glazing bars in exposed frames, each with a gauged red brick arch. A modillioned eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The original front doorway has been bricked up. The 1765 addition is also of red brick, with some blue headers, and contains three windows and a chimney breast, also with gauged brick arches to large sash windows with glazing bars. The house has been converted into maisonettes and has modern bay windows at the rear. Riverhead House, along with its forecourt railings, coach house, and walls, forms a group of historical significance.
