Description
The garden walls at Lullingstone Castle, located immediately north of the Church of St Botolph, date from the 17th to the 19th century. They are constructed from red brick, yellow stock brick, and flint. The south wall of the south garden is primarily made of red brick with a significant amount of English bond, using 19th to 20th century mortars on its south face. The east wall of the south garden features early red brick with some English bond and some 19th century ash mortar. A high red brick wall is present on the southwest side of the south garden, extending north beyond a gateway. The north wall of this garden consists of old red brick in English bond at the west end, transitioning to English bond in later stock brick; the north face of this wall is also made of red brick in English bond. The west walls of the bothy garden are partly constructed of red brick, including a small section of old bricks in a mixture of bonds, and partly of flint and brick. The long north wall is faced with flint and red brick on its north face and with brick in English bond on its south face.
