Description

The chimney at Springfield Mill is a Grade II listed structure built in 1837 by William Balston to replace an earlier chimney from around 1809 on the same site. Made of yellow stock brick laid in header bond, the tall circular chimney is situated near the eastern boundary wall of Springfield Mill. It features a noticeable taper, and the upper courses are strengthened with four later iron bands. The chimney is linked to the main mill building to the west by an underground flue that is approximately 150 meters long, although this flue was not inspected in 2015 and is not included in the listing.
