Description
The Folly in the Grounds of Boughton Mount is an early 19th-century garden building designed in the 'Gothick' style, possibly serving as a summer house. It was constructed when the Braddick family owned Boughton Mount.
The building is made from random rubble Kentish ragstone sourced from local quarries. It has an L-shaped plan with a taller central square tower.
On the exterior, the north side features a higher central section adorned with a dogtooth cornice, a band of projecting stone rubble, and several putlog holes. The east side includes two pointed arched entrances that have been blocked with brickwork from the late 20th or early 21st century. The west side has a small round-headed window opening that is primarily blocked with brick. At the time of the survey, vegetation partly concealed the exterior.
Interior photographs reveal an arched passage roof on the north side, which has rough projecting stones, a circular roof aperture, and an internal chamber.
