Description

This is a headstone dedicated to John Griffen, located about 12 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of stone. The headstone features an undulating top with lobed ears and long straight sides. It is intricately carved with crossed bones and two skulls accompanied by spades. At the base of the top, there is a winged cherub's head holding a trumpet within a semi-circle. The inscription commemorates Mr. John Griffen, who died in 1726.
