Description

This is a headstone located about 18 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Hawkinge. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and is made of stone divided into twin panels. The head of the stone features a scrolled and foliated design, with a cherub's head carved on the left side and a skull on the right, accompanied by an hour-glass between them. The date of death inscribed on the right side is 1733, although the inscription was barely legible at the time of the last survey.
