Description
Originally Sir Roger Manwood's Grammar School, dating to 1564, it is now two private houses. A date is inscribed in iron letters, forming the dogs of beams behind, on the front of the building. The building was restored in 1892. It is constructed of thin yellow brick, and is two storeys and an attic in height. The facade has seven windows and five dormers with crow-stepped gables, which originally terminated in small octagonal shafts (the finials are now missing). A parapet sits between the gables. The original windows remain in the attic gables, featuring lead lights. Moulded labels are still visible above the windows in the gables and the first floor. Sash windows with intact glazing bars have been inserted on the first floor, alongside a small bay at the east end. More modern windows are present on the ground floor. A 19th-century projection extends towards the east end, featuring a porch with a shaped gable. The east and west walls each have two chimney breasts, each with a half stepped gable on the outer sides. A pointed gable is situated between the chimney breasts, and these terminate in the same small, round shafts as the dormer gables.
