Description
The Church of St Nicholas is a Grade I listed building located on Church Lane in Sturry. It is constructed from flint and stone rubble and features a tiled roof. The chancel and the walls of the nave date back to the Norman period, while the tower, which has three stages and a crenellated parapet, includes lower stages from the 12th century with clasping buttresses and banding. The battlements were added in the 15th century. The arcades and aisles are from the 14th to 15th centuries, and the timber-framed north porch is from the 14th century as well. The church has a four-bay nave with a kingpost roof, a piscina, and a font from the 13th century. The churchyard features oval bodystones and several 18th-century headstones adorned with cherub or skull motifs.
