Description

Maypole Thatch is a timber-framed building dating from around 1385, with later additions. It began as a two-bay open-hall, with a third bay added subsequently. The original timber frame is filled with plaster and features diagonal braces on the first floor. The ground floor was rebuilt in red brick during the 18th century, though some close-studding remains visible. The house has a steeply-pitched hipped thatched roof with a central chimneystack, and two casement windows. Inside, you'll find two inglenook fireplaces, upright posts with jougs, and a crow post roof, incorporating one moulded octagonal-shaped post and one that has been cut down. It is designated Grade II* as a rare example of a 14th-century two-bay hall-house.
