Description
Dowle Street Cottages, originally the Dowle Street Farmhouse, is a 15th-century timber-framed building featuring plaster infilling and curved braces on the first floor. It has a steeply-pitched hipped tiled roof and consists of one bay on both the ground and first floors, topped with a gable. The first-floor window has two tiers of six lights, made with wooden mullions and transoms, along with three casement windows. The doorcase is adorned with a flat hood supported by brackets. The first floor of the north-east front extends over the ends of the floor joists, while the south-west front originally had a similar overhang but has been underbuilt in brick, which is now painted, with a pentice addition. This building is a notable example of a late medieval hall-house.
