Description
Abbots Barton Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century with slight alterations from the 18th century, is located at 1833 Chaundler Road. This two-storey building features a garden front made of red brick, accented with stone quoins and a string course at the first-floor level. The old tile roof has six windows with mullioned and transomed frames that lead to casements. A central door is topped by a plaster panel set in a raised brick surround. At the south end, there is a large square brick chimney, and the windows are adorned with rubbed heads and keystones. The chimneys date back to the 17th century.
The entrance front has two tile-hung gables above a brick ground floor, with a roof that slopes down between them. A large central stone chimney, a 19th-century addition, features tall octagonal shafts with moulded caps. Adjoining the farmhouse is a two-storey cottage from the 18th century, constructed of red brick with a hipped old tile roof at the south end and a very large stone stack. Abbots Barton Farmhouse, the adjoining cottage, and the Dovecote form a group.
