Description
Malthouse Farmhouse is a house dating from the late medieval period, originally built as a timber-framed hall. It features an inserted 16th-century chimney and some upper floors, presenting itself as a three-bay house with a lobby entrance. The exterior has early 19th-century cladding and extensions, along with mid-19th-century additions. The walls are made of cement rendering, with some brickwork visible in the rear outshots. The roof is steep and covered with slate.
The north-west front elevation includes a hall with a staircase unit that projects in front of the original entrance. The building is one storey with an attic and has three windows in a 1:1:1 arrangement. The windows are casements, and there is a six-panelled door set within a gabled trellis porch. Inside, the massive chimney and framing are concealed, while the entrance hall features panelled walls and a partially surviving original staircase with slatted rails.
