Description
The Game Larder, originally built as a dairy around 1860, was designed by Henry Clutton for Raikes Currie. It is located on the north-east side of Minley Manor in a deliberately shaded area.
The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It has an octagonal single-cell plan with a basement that can be accessed by separate external steps. The exterior displays red brick elevations, with four of the eight sides featuring timber-framed sash windows. Two sides include geometric stained glass panels set into the sash boxes, while the opposing sides have four-panelled timber doors. The roof is an octagonal pyramid that overhangs significantly, supported by timber posts at each corner, and topped with an octagonal ventilation cupola.
Inside, the walls are rendered and have a low band of 20th-century tiling. Above the doors, there are decorative plaster panels depicting scenes of horsemanship. The floor consists of a central circular slab with a sandstone border, divided radially into eight sections covered in black and buff ceramic tiles. The cupola's interior is lined with timber and features a cross beam, which may have been used for suspending game.
