Description
Hook Mill is a 17th and 18th century mill that has been converted into a single dwelling, which includes an attached house. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the central part featuring exposed timber framing and walling that is slightly recessed into both sections. The facade has a window arrangement of 3:1:1:3. The roof is covered with red tiles and has a half-hipped design for the house portion and at both ends of the taller mill section, which includes a small gabled dormer positioned high on the roof.
On the north side, there is a projecting wing that was formerly used as a hoist, also featuring a half-hipped gable. The house has a catslide roof on its north side. The walls are constructed of red brick in English bond, with cambered openings and a plinth, while some sections have boarded walling on the north side. The original small openings have been fitted with modern leaded casements. The house features a six-panelled door set in a solid frame. Inside, older elements have been incorporated, including an old door that serves as the main entrance, 17th century panelling, and some carved panels depicting religious scenes. The large timbers of the mill are exposed within the interior.
