Description
Westbrooke House is a house, later used as offices, dating from the early 18th century. It has been altered and extended to the right and rear. The main front of the building is three storeys high and five bays wide, with the central bay slightly projected forward. The exterior is brick with a slate roof. The ground floor features a central door within a pedimented stone doorcase, accessed by modern steps, flanked by two sash windows. The first and second floors each have five similar sash windows. The central window on the second floor has a brick head. A deep cornice with modillion detailing runs along the eaves.
The interior retains contemporary doors and panelling, as well as a notable oak staircase with alternate fluted and twisted balusters and carved stair ends. The staircase is accessed on each level through a depressed arch with a plaster panelled soffit and jambs, and the staircase ceiling is richly decorated in plaster. Seven sections of a Doric frieze have been re-used on the walls of the hall and stairs, featuring triglyphs and moulded trophies, seven of which are carved devices.
