Description
Candover House, formerly known as Candover Park, dates from the 18th and 20th centuries. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features a symmetrical main front on the east side with three sets of three windows. The hipped slate roof has brick dentil eaves, and the central slight projection includes a pediment with a coping stone and bands that enclose a circular window. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches and a band at the first floor. The windows are sashes set in reveals.
A classical doorcase is attached to a later shallow brick porch that has side windows, along with a cornice, scroll brackets, architrave, and panelled reveals. The west garden front mirrors the main front's design, also featuring three sets of three windows, but includes a central bow-shaped feature with a parapet and French windows, along with a flat-roofed central dormer behind the parapet. The south side has four windows and a doorway below a fanlight at the third bay. A lower service wing, which is of more recent construction, is attached to the north end and has similar architectural features.
