Description
The monument to Hermione Beatrice Eckstein is located in the churchyard of Christ Church in Maresfield and was created in 1930 by Sir William Reid Dick. It commemorates Hermione Beatrice Eckstein (1893-1945), who laid the foundation stone for the church's enlargement in 1935. The monument features a bronze standing figure of a young woman dressed in Ancient Greek attire, with her arms outstretched, set on a stone plinth. The early date of the statue suggests that it may have been chosen as a memorial before her death, or that a beloved piece of sculpture was repurposed as a memorial afterwards. This monument is one of three dedicated to the Eckstein family in the churchyard.
