Description
Wells Croft is a house with its earliest reference dating back to 1565, although the surviving remains suggest it is primarily from the 17th century. The building features a timber frame that was refronted in the early to mid 19th century. The front is finished in painted brick on a stone plinth, with tile hanging on the right side. The roof is tiled, hipped to the left and gabled to the right, topped with a brick stack. It has two storeys and two windows, with early 19th century 12-pane sash windows that are cambered on the ground floor. The central doorcase is topped with a flat weatherhood supported by brackets. At the rear, there are two 20th-century extensions. Inside, there is a large open fireplace measuring 9 feet by 4 feet 6 inches, featuring an oak bressumer, with bread ovens located on both sides of the central chimney breast.
