Description

The Parish Church in Chiddingly is a Grade I listed building constructed of ashlar stone with an ashlar-faced tower and slated roofs. The church features a chancel, a nave with aisles, a north porch, and a west tower. The nave and aisles date back to the 13th century, while the tower and stone spire were built in the 15th century and restored in 1897. The chancel and porch were added in 1864. Inside, there is a notable monument to Sir John Jefferay, who died in 1577, along with similar Jefferay monuments from 1612 and 1620. The church is recognized for its stone spire, which is uncommon in Sussex. It also has a kingpost roof and later 18th-century pulpit box pews.
