Description
The Gatehouse to the south-west of Bolebroke Castle is a 16th-century structure. It features an archway with two storeys above, topped by a parapet. The building is constructed of red brick with grey headers. On the north side, there are octagonal buttresses that end in ball caps, with a similar cap at the center of the parapet. The north side has a depressed cement-covered brick arch with a dripstone above, flanked by recesses. Above this arch are small rectangular windows.
On the south side, there is an octagonal turret topped with ogee-shaped cupolas, and an octagonal cap at the center of the parapet. This side also has small windows with brick dripstones in the turrets, along with two larger windows featuring brick mullions in the central portion. The south side has a smaller depressed arch, just large enough for pedestrians, which contains an old iron-studded door. This door has a smaller ogee-headed opening with its original iron knocker. Both the east and west sides of the gatehouse have chimney breasts located in the center.
