Description

This is an 18th-century building, originally the Vicarage, located on Church Street in Uckfield. It is two storeys and has an attic, with five windows and three dormers. The building is constructed of grey headers with red brick dressings, quoins, and vertical strings. A stuccoed stringcourse and cornice run along the top, and it has a parapet of grey headers. The original glazing bars remain intact. A doorway, originally centrally located, has been moved to the side; it features Doric columns, a pediment, a semi-circular fanlight, and a door consisting of six fielded panels. A matching window now occupies the original doorway’s central position. The garden front of the building was largely altered in the 19th century. A good 18th-century staircase is now located within a separate part of the building, known as Muddle House.
