Description
Stone Hill is a 15th-century timber-framed hall-house of Wealden type, featuring plaster infilling and partly close-studded construction. The building was restored in 1912 and has a flipped tiled roof. It consists of a central portion flanked by two wings, with the first floor overhanging at the ends supported by protruding floor joists. The central section includes curved braces and brackets that support the eaves, as well as a projecting bay built on a red brick base. This bay has windows on both floors, each with two tiers of five lights, wooden mullions, and a transom, along with ornamental timbering between the ground and first floors. There is a round-headed doorway, and to the south, an original window with three narrow lights featuring wooden mullions and diamond-shaped leaded panes of old green glass. The house has two storeys and four windows. Sir James Barrie lived in the house from 1921 to 1934.
