Description
This is an 18th-century oast house located 100 meters west-south-west of Tanners Manor House. The oast itself was built in the 19th century and altered later in that century. It features red brick on a rough stone plinth, with blue headers on the oast. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. The L-shaped building has few windows, which are mostly heavily framed in wood and wider than they are tall. There is a cambered-headed doorway at the first floor on the north-east side. The adjacent re-entrant wall is weatherboarded above and open below. The oast has more carefully laid brickwork and is topped with a pyramidal tile roof that has a square plan and a steeply-roofed louvre, supported by diagonal braces and dragon beams. Inside, the northern portion has sling braces and clasped purlins, while the southern portion has a simple purlin roof. This simple building has a picturesque appearance that complements the stable nearby, both of which can be seen from Tanners Manor House.
