Description
Homestall Lodge, part of Stoke Brunswick School, was established by Lord Dewar in 1933. The building features a half-H plan on three sides of a courtyard and is formed from two older houses. It has two storeys and an attic, with fourteen windows and a tiled roof. The original house, known as Homestall, makes up the south-west wing and dates from the 15th to 16th century. This timber-framed structure has plaster infilling, with the end portion faced in ashlar. The east wing was relocated from Cheshire and is known as Dutton Hall, also a 16th-century timber-framed building with plaster infilling and close-studding. Notable features include an elaborately carved two-storey porch with a gable dated 1562, a great hall with a partly enclosed hammer-beam roof, and a stone fireplace dated 1585.
