Description

Carriers Farmhouse is a 15th century timber-framed cottage that has been plastered and painted in black and white to resemble traditional timbering. It features a hipped thatched roof and casement windows with small square leaded panes. The building stands two storeys high and has three windows. From 1582 to 1593, it was the residence of the Reverend John Frewen, a Puritan divine who served as Rector of Northiam from 1582 to 1628 and was the founder of the Frewen family in Northiam. His eldest son, the Reverend Accepted Frewen, who became Archbishop of York from 1660 to 1664, was born here in 1588.
