Description

Brightling Needle is an obelisk erected by John Fuller, known as "Mad Jack," of Brightling Park, formerly called Rose Hill, in the early 19th century. It stands on one of the highest points in East Sussex, making it visible for miles around. The obelisk was likely designed by Sir Robert Smirke, who constructed other buildings in the parish for Fuller around the same time. It is made of coursed stone and consists of four sections, each featuring a stringcourse.
